Urban Herbivore Restaurant (College Street Location) Toronto

Urban Herbivore have three Vegan food outlets in downtown Toronto. We’d been interested in paying them a visit for a while as we were really impressed by their straight talking website (“We do not use food factories or commercial bakeries to prepare our food. We honour a whole-food philosophy so that you receive a quality product without any preservatives, additives, or ingredients you can’t pronounce…”) and by their menu, so last week we paid a visit to the branch at 967 College Street. It’s a large place but you have to…

Hotel Das Capri, Vienna

We stayed at the Hotel Das Capri for a week whilst researching our city guide to Vienna and found it a perfect resting place for creative, food loving photographers like us. The analogue photography that decorates each room and hallway makes for an impressive collection and if you’re into ethical eating then we think that the breakfast will be one of the highlights of your Vienna experience. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay; at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll…

Molin’Arte Restaurant, Chefchaouen

Despite reading on Trip Advisor that Molin’arte is difficult to find, we came across it really easily. Basically, when you’re at the river, you’re near. And if you’re at the lower bathing/clothes washing spot (there are only two and they’re easy to find), standing on the bridge, it’s right in front of you. The restaurant has a superb setting. The ladies of the town come to do their clothes washing nearby and the kids swim just upstream. As such the soundtrack as you eat is pleasant, with distant shrieks and…

The New Hotel, Athens

We stayed in the New Hotel for five nights around the time of the Athens Marathon, when it was also used as the base for the elite athletes. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay, and at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel. The hotel is the first ever hotel project of award winning designer duo Fernando and Humberto Campana. The Brazilian brothers were commissioned for their eco-sensitive ethos and the use of contemporary handicraft…

Dancing Shiva Superfoods Restaurant, Vienna

Dancing Shiva Superfoods was less than two minutes walk from our hotel, the Kugel, so when we heard it was supposed to be the best vegan restaurant in Vienna we thought we had to pay it a visit. We were so glad we did; it’s probably the best restaurant we visited in our entire nine month trip through Europe, North Africa and Asia. The main door was backed with heavy velvet drapes that kept the warmth and cosy atmosphere in. We were welcomed in by the scent of aromatic Indian spices, herbal incense and…

The Art Gallery Hotel, Athens

We stayed at The Art Gallery Hotel for five nights whilst researching our Athens City Guide. Here are a few observations and photographs that we made during our time there, and at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel.  Location - The Art Gallery Hotel is at 5 Erecthiou Street, a quiet residential street lined with orange trees. It’s a five minute walk from the Syngrou Metro Station, a fifteen minute walk from The Temple of Zeus and a twenty minute walk to the entrance…

The Cafe Landtmann, Vienna

We’d just visited the Freud Museum so it seemed apt that we dine in Sigmund’s favourite cafe, the Landtmann, which is just a fifteen minute walk from his old house. We’d made a reservation and the waiter had our table, looking out at the Christmas Market in front of the City Hall, waiting for us. We were actually a little late; we’d seen the lights of the market and been distracted somewhat as they were such a magnificent sight… …and then when we got to the cafe, there was a…

Hotel Lancelot, Rome

The Hotel Lancelot was one of the highlights of our stay in Rome. It’s a beautifully appointed hotel with a timeless feel in a wonderful location (very near the Colosseum) and run by the sort of charming, experienced and knowledgeable owners that you have to search seriously hard for nowadays. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay, and at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel. Location – We took about twenty minutes to walk…

The Spanish Riding School (practice session), Vienna

You know that we here at The Photographers Guide love animals, and that we try our very best to only support businesses and people that feel the same way. So when we mentioned to a few friends that we were visiting the Spanish Riding School in Vienna they were surprised. “That’s like a circus isn’t it?” one said, whilst another said they’d heard the horses, during the course of training and performance, are forced to do things they never would naturally and that they’re trained from birth and never have the opportunity…

The Hera Hotel, Athens

We stayed at The Hera Hotel in Athens for 7 nights during November, 2014. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay, and at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel. The Hera is a friendly, central, four star place and relatively good value in our opinion considering what you get for the price and the cost of other hotels in the vicinity. Location - The Hera Hotel is at Falirou 9, a quiet residential street less than…
