The Hotel Kugel, Vienna

We stayed at the Hotel Kugel for a week whilst researching our city guide to Vienna and loved it. It’s very central, Christina and Johannes, the owners, are charming hosts and it’s very comfortable with a timelessly classy feel to the decor.  Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay; at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel. Location – There’s a bus stop outside, with a bus going direct to the main train station. The west train…

Hotel Casci, Florence

We stayed at the Hotel Casci for six nights whilst we created our Florence City Guide. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay; at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel. Location – The hotel location is ideal, in a 15th century palazzo that’s a few doors away from the old Medici house where Michelangelo stayed whilst a student and a five minute walk from Duomo (one of the centres of the old town). The Uffizi…

Hotel Das Capri, Vienna

We stayed at the Hotel Das Capri for a week whilst researching our city guide to Vienna and found it a perfect resting place for creative, food loving photographers like us. The analogue photography that decorates each room and hallway makes for an impressive collection and if you’re into ethical eating then we think that the breakfast will be one of the highlights of your Vienna experience. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay; at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll…

The New Hotel, Athens

We stayed in the New Hotel for five nights around the time of the Athens Marathon, when it was also used as the base for the elite athletes. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay, and at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel. The hotel is the first ever hotel project of award winning designer duo Fernando and Humberto Campana. The Brazilian brothers were commissioned for their eco-sensitive ethos and the use of contemporary handicraft…

The Art Gallery Hotel, Athens

We stayed at The Art Gallery Hotel for five nights whilst researching our Athens City Guide. Here are a few observations and photographs that we made during our time there, and at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel.  Location - The Art Gallery Hotel is at 5 Erecthiou Street, a quiet residential street lined with orange trees. It’s a five minute walk from the Syngrou Metro Station, a fifteen minute walk from The Temple of Zeus and a twenty minute walk to the entrance…

Hotel Lancelot, Rome

The Hotel Lancelot was one of the highlights of our stay in Rome. It’s a beautifully appointed hotel with a timeless feel in a wonderful location (very near the Colosseum) and run by the sort of charming, experienced and knowledgeable owners that you have to search seriously hard for nowadays. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay, and at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel. Location – We took about twenty minutes to walk…

The Hera Hotel, Athens

We stayed at The Hera Hotel in Athens for 7 nights during November, 2014. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay, and at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel. The Hera is a friendly, central, four star place and relatively good value in our opinion considering what you get for the price and the cost of other hotels in the vicinity. Location - The Hera Hotel is at Falirou 9, a quiet residential street less than…

Auberge Dardara, Chefchaouen

We stayed at the Auberge Dardara for four nights. Here are a few photos and thoughts that we made whilst there, and at the bottom of this review you can find a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel If you ever hear of the Auberge Dardara on TripAdvisor or the Lonely Planet/etc guidebooks they always mention the quality of the food and that you should treat yourself to a meal here if you’re ever in Chefchaouen. In the listings, it’s the number one recommended restaurant in…

Kasbah Ellouze, Tamdaght, Morocco

Location – The Kasbah Ellouze sits next to the ancient kasbah of Tamdaght, on the edge of the village overlooking the extensive gardens that stretch half a mile or so to the distant riverbed and mountains. We approached the kasbah on foot up the valley from Aït Benhaddou. It took about three hours (it was only 5km but we didn’t rush as it was so scenic, and we were walking on sand most of the way) although most guests arrive by private car or taxi along a sealed road. Here’s the…

Riad Baraka, Chefchaouen

We stayed at the Riad Baraka for five nights. Here are a few photos and observations that we made during our stay, and at the bottom of this review is a video that’ll give you a further idea of the hotel. If you take any advice at all from us regarding a backpacking tour of Morocco, please make it this; if at all possible, visit the Riad Baraka in Chefchaouen and speak to the owners, Joe and Trevor, before doing anything else in the country. You can get to the…
