Fett Und Zucker Cafe, Vienna

Fett Und Zucker is a cafe in the 2nd district of Vienna, not far from the main centre or Das Capri Hotel. There’s a very comfortable, retro, arty and alternative vibe there, free wi-fi and everything on the menu has been baked in the cafe itself, with plenty of vegan options and the fruit ingredients coming from the manager’s village garden. We wished we were coffee drinkers when we visited as their coffee is locally roasted and sourced fair trade and organic from a collective in Indonesia, but we stuck to…

Urban Herbivore Restaurant (College Street Location) Toronto

Urban Herbivore have three Vegan food outlets in downtown Toronto. We’d been interested in paying them a visit for a while as we were really impressed by their straight talking website (“We do not use food factories or commercial bakeries to prepare our food. We honour a whole-food philosophy so that you receive a quality product without any preservatives, additives, or ingredients you can’t pronounce…”) and by their menu, so last week we paid a visit to the branch at 967 College Street. It’s a large place but you have to…

Dancing Shiva Superfoods Restaurant, Vienna

Dancing Shiva Superfoods was less than two minutes walk from our hotel, the Kugel, so when we heard it was supposed to be the best vegan restaurant in Vienna we thought we had to pay it a visit. We were so glad we did; it’s probably the best restaurant we visited in our entire nine month trip through Europe, North Africa and Asia. The main door was backed with heavy velvet drapes that kept the warmth and cosy atmosphere in. We were welcomed in by the scent of aromatic Indian spices, herbal incense and…

Fuel Plus, Toronto, Canada

If I lived in Toronto and worked in the downtown area, I’d make Fuel Plus a regular brunch or lunch stop and if you’re in town for a short time and only have chance for one lunch stop this is the place to come. Their food is great, the staff are friendly, they source most of their food locally, they sell nutrition products geared towards runners such as myself as well as regular food and also there’s a superb lack of marketing nonsense in the air, which I personally…

Fresh Restaurant, Toronto, Canada

Fresh is on Spadina Avenue, near to Kensington Market, Chinatown and Queen Street East – an interesting area for tourists and hipsters alike. It’s an easy 10 minute walk to Osgoode Tube Station, or 20 minutes to Dundas Square, the centre of downtown Toronto. Before we talk about our experiences there, here’s a record of a chat we had with Fresh spokesperson Jennifer. How would you describe Fresh, your core values, what’s generally on the menu, etc, to somebody unfamiliar with the restaurant? We aim to offer vegan and vegetarian food…

The Magic Oven Restaurant, Toronto, Canada

The Magic Oven offers award winning pizza made with organic flours, organic mozzarella & raw milk cheddars and organic meats. They also serve a diverse selection of healthy salads, pastas and sandwiches, all made to accommodate a variety of diets – for instance, there are organic spelt pizzas, gluten-free rice flour pizzas and the option of vegan or lactose-free cheese. The restaurants (there are 6 spread across the city of Toronto) are fully licensed (offering a selection of specialty wines and beer with organic options) and reflect the owners commitment to respecting…

Spring Rolls Restaurant, Toronto, Canada

The branch of Spring Rolls Restaurant that Lamia and I visited, at 40 Dundas Street West, is just 2 minutes walk to Yonge and Dundas intersection (the central square of the city) and the Eaton Centre (downtown Toronto’s shopping mall). If you’re in town for the Toronto Waterfront Marathon then it’s a 10 minute walk from the finish line.      There’s a take away option – useful if you want to sit out in Dundas Square or take back to your hotel –  or a regular eat-in. We chose…
